I had not read a good novel in several months. I used to go through three or four books a month! I went to the library last week and checked out a few books. I don’t know, I love the smell and feel of books still and I have not given in to purchasing an electronic reader. Maybe someday. Anyway, I just finished reading Blackbird House by Alice Hoffman. It’s about one house and the different people who lived in it over a span of two hundred years.

It was nice to step away from my desk at the end of the day and read a chapter or two. It took my mind off things and I would always come back to my desk feeling refreshed and ready to go.

I had almost forgotten how nice it is to sit down and simply read a good book!

I just finished reading *Four Word Self Help* by Patti Digh, www.37days.com. It’s a very simple book filled with advice in four words! These are are few statements that resonated with me… *wear only solid clothing,* *give up toxic people,* *be happy in advance.* If I keep these three statements in mind, my life would be so much simpler!

This book was recommended by Laura Allen, who is a fellow VA and AssistU graduate www.assistu.com. She is also author of www.hungryforlifeblog.com and she contributed a piece of her artwork for the book!

Yes, life can be very complex! If you are working, looking for a job, taking care of family… so much to do and so much stress!

The four word statements in this book made me realize what is truly important and that simple wisdom can help us navigate through the complexities of life.

I’ve been a bit “stuck” in my business lately, intimidated by all that I must do to achieve my goals. So, I’ve been doing nothing because it’s just too big to think about. But if I do one thing a day that will move me closer to my goals, I can handle it!

Today I’ll update my blog, tomorrow I’ll work on Evernote, Wednesday is in-person networking, and so on. One day, one task, one step at a time.

It has been one week since AssistU’s Homecoming 2011. Homecoming was held on September 16-18 in San Diego. It was a weekend full of love and encouragement from my fellow AssistU graduates. I came away from the event with a commitment to do all I can to make my VA business a success. I love working virtually, but there is something about being surrounded by people who understand what I do and can relate so much better than any of my family members can.

As I sit at my desk reviewing my notes from the event and thinking about what’s next for my business, I can’t help but feel the love I was given last weekend. FROM VUGS TO HUGS! I am so looking forward to seeing my “sisters” again next year!

In the meantime, I’d better get to work! There is so much to do!

On Saturday, July 16, I gave my first Toastmasters speech. It’s called the “icebreaker.” In that speech I talked about prioritizing, what’s important in my life (my family) and that there simply is not enough time to do everything. It’s OK to do what you can with the time you have. This topic is relevant for me because I have been struggling lately between my part-time job, my virtual assistant business, and my family! Right now, it is what it is. I will enjoy my two granddaughters, work my part-time job, and work on my business with the time that’s left! Later on, I will be able to shift my priorities around. It’s OK to wait a bit!

I received some wonderful feedback from the club members and by actually presenting my thoughts in a speech, I validated that it’s OK if you can’t do everything!

Last week, I went to the library and checked out the book Secrets of Eden by Chris Bohjalian. It’s a good story and I really enjoy to read. But carrying around a 375-page book can be cumbersome. I started to think about the electronic reader… should I get one? I’m an Apple user, so I’d probably want an iPad. But I LOVE the feel of an actual book. I also LOVE the feel of being in a library, taking a few books from the shelf and sitting in a nice corner, reviewing the books, and deciding which ones I will take home. What’s your opinion? I’d like to receive some feedback, pros and cons, about each!

If I allow fear to take over, I’ll just sit there and do nothing! At this morning’s Toastmasters meeting, Jamie talked about fear. His 3-minute speech was just the motivation I needed to sit down and just write! Don’t let fear hold you back! Take just one step at a time and you can make your dreams come true.
